Designed for Virgin Atlantic and based on an existing seat structure, the intent was to carry over key language elements from the Upper Class design into the Premium Economy offering, while improving the passenger’s experience and comfort.

My involvement included design, development, project management and liaison with client and engineers.

By paying particular attention to structural elements we were able to give the passengers a significantly wider seat pan.

By placing the IFE handset into the backrest the complexity of the cable routing within the aircraft cabin was greatly reduced. This modified positioning also located the IFE in an under-utilised space where it could be easily seen and operated.

We identified and improved upon several comfort and maintenance issues related to the footrest and literature pocket by giving passengers a second, higher footrest position and reducing their ability to use the literature pocket as a foot rest.
